Late Goals in Narrow Defeat to Bermondsey Town

South East Athletic v Bermondsey Town

18 October 2025

We fell to a 2-1 defeat against Bermondsey Town, despite taking an early lead in a tightly contested match.

Chris Weber opened the scoring with a goal from 30 yards capitalising on early pressure to find the back of the net. The lead held strong for much of the game as we maintained control until half time.

However, Bermondsey Town fought back in the latter stages, equalising late before snatching the winner with less than 10 minutes to go. The comeback meant we left empty-handed for the second week in a row after a strong performance for most of the match.

The result will be a tough one to take, as we looked on course for a well-earned victory before Bermondsey’s late surge turned the game on its head.

We turn our attention to back-to-back fixtures against Farnborough at the start of next month.

equinoccial edge past in fiery league clash

Equinoccial v South East Athletic

11 October 2025

We suffered our first league defeat of the season in a spirited encounter against a well-organised Equinoccial side, falling 2–1 after a dramatic contest that truly was a tale of two halves.

The home team took advantage of two defensive lapses in the first half to establish a 2–0 lead at the break, despite creating few clear-cut chances.

SEA came out rejuvenated after halftime, quickly pulling one back through a Hakeem Brissett-Stewart penalty just five minutes into the second half. From there, it was all SEA, who poured forward relentlessly in search of an equaliser. Two goal-line scrambles and a desperate clearance off the line kept Equinoccial’s lead intact.

Despite dominating the closing stages, SEA couldn’t convert their pressure into goals, with the match ending 2–1 in favour of the league leaders.

It’s a first real setback of the season for SEA, but the performance in the second half showed plenty of fight and character to build on going forward.

PARKWOOD BLOWN AWAY

South East Athletic v Parkwood Rangers

4 October 2025

On a windy match day Saturday, the boys set out with one goal - 3 points. However, Parkwood Rangers opened the scoring early on with a penalty. Despite dominating possession in spells, we failed to capitalise on two huge chances in the first half and went into the break trailing.

However, the second half was a completely different story. We came out with intensity and turned the game around quickly with three quick goals in the first 15 minutes. The first was a penalty converted by Hakeem Brissett-Stewart. The second, a glancing header by Connor Walsh and a neat finish by Deris Sesay to end a great spell of possession.

With momentum firmly on our side, we continued to dominate and added two more goals through great patterns of play, finished by Hakeem and Deris securing a brace each.

This ultimately sealed an emphatic 5-1 win and secured the 3 points we set out to collect.

7 unbeaten in the league. Next up, Equinoccial.

NO REF? NO PROBLEM

Bromleians v South East Athletic

27 September 2025

A delayed kick off due to a referee no-show did not stop us from taking all three points in Bromley.

Abdul's thoughts: A last minute referee was found and Bromleians started brighter with a few half chances and an opportunity hitting the crossbar. However, we soon settled into the game, leading Glen Bain to pick up the ball showing excellent pace down the right. His delivery found Jesse Bonisehi who made a fantastic run to put us 1-nil up.

We controlled the second half of the game and created many chances to score. The substitutes made a difference with Chris Webber making his debut and creating as well but was unfortunate to not get on the score sheet as the woodwork and then the opposition keeper denied him.

Jacob Smale had a good game winning the ball back and breaking down plays as well as trying to create in the final third.

The result completed another amazing defensive display keeping our fourth clean sheet in 6 league games.

Next up, Parkwood Rangers.

Kings hill victorious

Kings Hill v South East Athletic

20 September 2025

It was defeat in the Kent Intermediate Challenge Shield as we fell at the first hurdle to Premier Division side, Kings Hill in a close encounter. It marks Eddie's first defeat at the helm and he will be looking for a quick turnaround this Saturday against Bromleians.

Eddie's thoughts: We matched up against them well. They had more of the ball but we had the better chances. The [Kings Hill] goalkeeper pulled off some amazing saves [to keep them in the game], we switched off and got punished. Star performance from Micah Willetts!

The side will regroup in training and prepare for league action and the trip to BR2. Eddie will still be without top scorer, Agbor Sobeh and Harry Aldridge (injury).

South East Athletic v Peckham Town

6 September 2025

Another former Premier Division side fails to take all three points against us at home as we shut out Peckham Town in this league encounter.

With both teams vying for those promotion spots early on, the draw keeps us unbeaten but falling out of the top two spot for a while as we go into the cups.

Our next league fixture comes at the end of the month and a red card for striker, Agbor Sobeh, means he will now miss the rest of September's fixtures including the two back to back cup fixtures.

Bermondsey v South East Athletic

30 August 2025

A penalty converted by Hakeem was the difference between the two sides as Eddie's men continued their fine start to the 2025/26 season.

The 1-0 away win ensures the first team remained unbeaten in August claiming 10 out of a possible 12 points available and keeps us in second place as we head into September's fixture run.

With some players missing, a clean sheet against decent opposition will sit well with the management team as we push for promotion places early on.

We now prepare for the visit of fourth placed Peckham Town.

South East Athletic v Ide Hill

23 August 2025

Birthday boy Agbor gave the first team the lead going into half time in an even game against Ide Hill.

We dominated the first half though both teams had chances for goals hitting the woodwork a couple of times. However, it was a game of two halves as Ide Hill ramped up the pressure in the second half.

Saves from both goalkeepers kept the score line low but early in the second half, Ide Hill found a way through and rescued a point from the game.

A clear penalty claim for us was dismissed by the referee late on as we pushed for a winner.

The result keeps our unbeaten start to the season going and we look to take that form to Bermondsey on Saturday, 30th of August.

South East Athletic v Langley Sports

20 August 2025

Goals from Agbor and Hakeem were enough to keep all three points in Kidbrooke as the first team kept up with the likes of Ide Hill, Peckham Town and Equinoccial.

The traditional midweek match day 2 win sees us currently joint top and secures Jack's first clean sheet of the season. He will be looking to add to that through the season.

The first team will need a quick rest as they face Ide Hill on the 23rd as 1st take on 2nd. Both sides have scored 7 and conceded 2 so there is currently nothing to separate the sides.

Ide Hill do have KCFL Premier experience having been relegated at the end of last season.

EDDIE'S WINNING START

Greenwich Allstars FC v South East Athletic

16 August 2025

Despite going a goal behind in the first minutes of the opening game of the season, Eddie Asika's first team went away with a 5-2 win against newcomers, Greenwich Allstars.

A brace from Agbor and goals by Glen, Hakeem and Memsur sealed all three points as we look ahead to the midweek home fixture against Langley Sports on the 20th of August 2025.
